The Year of the Voice

“When we say “The Year of the Voice,” you might assume that we’re referring to the popularity of NBC’s Emmy award-winning TV show where contestants and their celebrity coaches battle it out for stage supremacy and stardom. But you would be wrong. As much as I love Carson Daly and a good cover song, I’m actually talking about voice over integrated circuits.

When it comes to providing your customers with new, high-quality digital phone service with flexible options, you should look to the same cable providers that deliver high-speed Internet access. Because cable voice providers like Time Warner Cable and Comcast run their service over their own private IP networks, they give a higher priority to voice packets than general data. This provides more control over the audio quality of digital phone calls. As a result, sound quality is significantly better than independent hosted providers such as Vonage, whose calls simply traverse the public Internet where voice packet priority cannot be given.”

5 Tips to Maximize your Linkedin Experience

Set Aside Time
The first step to accomplish anything with LinkedIn is to set aside time. I recommend setting aside a small amount of time each day to review updates on your feed and posts within your groups. Lunch is a great time for this. Also, setting LinkedIn as one of your home tabs can serve as a reminder each time you open your browser.

Add Value to Your Groups
In accordance to your newly established time commitment, you should be active each day in 1-2 of your groups. Add value to the conversations happening through your experiences and prediction. Also, a little conflict never hurt anyone; it actually helps! LinkedIn Groups are full of warm and fuzzy comments that really don’t add much more value than letting people know you have a mild pulse in the group. Formulating real opinions helps drive a valuable conversation.

Become a Leader Outside of the Group
Groups do not have to stay within LinkedIn. Leverage your consistent activity within the group to set up something outside of Linkedin. Group meetings are difficult if they are not location specific, but are still possible. Industry trade shows or noticing multiple members are in your area are easy ways to take the industry discussions and relationships to a coffee shop instead of a web browser.

Share Content that You Find Unique
Right before you click the ‘in’ button on a story, think to yourself: “would I read this if it were on my feed?” You would be surprised how often you say no. Finding unique stories within your industry is difficult, which is why they will direct more attention to your Connections.

Create Content
The final step is to actually create content for your profile, feed, and groups. Content creation is the most time consuming, and least sought after step. It is, however, the most powerful step you could take with your Linkedin profile. Connections driving the conversations are the connections creating content to be discussed. This is particularly common in groups. Set a goal to create content periodically and you will see an increase in your recognition across your avenues in LinkedIn.
