AireSpring is honored to receive the 2021 INTERNET TELEPHONY Product of the Year Award for integration of its SIP network with Microsoft Teams.

AireSpring's carrier-grade SIP network is one of the largest and most mature in the United States, and processes more than 6 billion calls per month over its fully managed and wholly owned and operated IP network with end-to-end QoS (Quality of Service). AireSpring SIP trunks provide high definition (HD) audio and reliable media transport, as well as superior service and uptime without the costs associated with legacy technologies. AireSpring's Nationwide SIP Network fully supports Microsoft Teams Direct Routing, which allows Teams users to make calls via AireSpring SIP Trunks and retain E911 support, port new and existing phone numbers, and obtain new DIDs nationwide.

"AireSpring is honored to be recognized as a technology leader for our innovative, nationwide SIP network," said AireSpring CEO Avi Lonstein. "Our global, redundant IP network is the backbone of our exceptional services, and SIP is the first beneficiary of that reliability. We're proud of our record in providing outstanding connectivity for voice, video, and increasingly, Microsoft Teams collaboration."

AireSpring is expanding its selection of Poly phone accessories with the addition of headsets. Now you can order/quote the Plantronics Blackwire 5210 and 5220 wired model headsets for your customers' IP phones. Both offer USB connectivity that will work with a PC or Polycom VVX 250, 350, 450, 401, 411, 501 and 601 phones, as well as an alternate 3.5mm plug for connection to smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. A USB-A connector is standard but a USB-C option is available by request. When using the USB connector, an in-line remote gives quick access to basic call functions.

The model 5210 is a one-ear monaural headset that allows users to hear calls and other digital audio while also being able to hear around their work area. The model 5220 is a two-ear stereo headset that offers greater audio isolation and full stereo sound from stereo sources.

Both headsets use Digital Signal Processing (DSP) to produce crystal-clear sound, and incorporate SoundGuard hearing protection to limit sudden volume increases and audio spikes. An adjustable boom microphone incorporates noise cancelling to reduce extraneous sounds around the user, including other conversations. The Dynamic EQ feature optimizes the earphone audio for the greatest clarity of speech or, when needed, wider-range sound.

A cushioned metal headband provides comfort and durability, while the padded earphones allow for comfortable all-day use. Both models have customizable mute settings and audio alerts with a choice of language options.

Please tell us a little about MTCI.

MTCI was founded in 1992 as a full-service Communications Solutions Provider, selling traditional voice and data solutions through a few strategic vendor partnerships. As we grew and developed, our partner relationships expanded as well. Today, MTCI has a diverse and comprehensive portfolio of vendor partners that has made us one of the strongest independent telecommunications firms in the nation.

Our lengthy tenure with many of these partner firms has allowed MTCI to establish deeply rooted relationships with key personnel. Customers get the advantage of these relationships in the form of enhanced contract management, timely resolution of issues, quality engineering support and overall improvement in the lifecycle management of their services.

As our vendor partnerships expanded, our core product offerings did as well. MTCI established two divisions that successfully complement our carrier service offerings. The MTCI structured cabling division provides solutions for access control, low voltage wiring, fiber, access points and security cameras. The MTCI VoIP division delivers both cloud-based Unified Communications (UCaaS) solutions as well as premise-based VoIP phone systems. MTCI designs, installs and supports each system.

Our Operations team provides project management, installation, trouble resolution and ongoing support to all MTCI customers, with systematic tracking of installation timelines and trouble ticket and contract management.

The MTCI Carrier Service Sales Team has decades of experience in the telecom industry. We put our clients' needs at the epicenter of all decisions and address their unique challenges by demonstrating unmatched breadth and depth of knowledge with the carriers and vendors. Our expertise includes IP and WAN connectivity, disaster recovery, Cloud/SD-WAN, Video and Collaboration services as well as SIP/UCaaS solutions. We use this expertise to plan, develop and implement best-fit carrier network and PBX services for each client's mission-critical telecom infrastructure.

What does the team at MTCI like about working with AireSpring?

The multiple carrier options that AireSpring can provide, and the support AireSpring provides, specifically the training and resources centered around SD-WAN and Security. The deep dive boot camps with the "Mandalorian of the Digital Universe" Mike Chase [AireSpring SVP Solutions Engineering] and Chuck Long [AireSpring Solutions Engineer] are amazing and provide new insights on how to engage and successfully sell these solutions to our clients. AireSpring's range of network and technical partners provides an advantage in designing a single source solution. In addition, once an order is submitted, the project management teams are very responsive and easy to work with. AireSpring is aligned with our core values in supporting our mutual customers.

Amanda Cummins: "The support I receive from our Channel Manager Rick Komon makes AireSpring a first or sometimes only look for my clients."

Brett Hubers: "Our AireSpring contacts are highly accessible and relatable."

Brian Henson: "When businesses were moving to a remote work model last spring, Rick assisted me with one of my clients. Time was a factor, and Rick went above and beyond to help me put a solution in place within a week. Rick and the AireSpring team are amazing."

Shari Hennekes: "AireSpring's competitive pricing and promotions are key when looking for the right solution for clients."

What would you say is the secret to being a successful trusted advisor/sales agent in today's marketplace?

A trusted advisor must master the skill of being an attentive listener. Many salespeople have preconceived ideas about what they want to sell before listening and understanding specific customer needs. Steering a customer to a sales agenda rarely works and won't support a long-term relationship. Developing potential solutions that address customer challenges can only occur via listening and keeping up to date on relevant service options. Customers will thank you and provide you with more business and referrals if you stay educated, listen, and provide relevant solutions.

Today's successful partners also proactively migrate customers from dated technologies to more nimble and mobile oriented services that provide the necessary connectivity while delivering a competitive advantage. Technology shifts to services such as Work from Home (WFH), SD-WAN and improved network security have pushed client needs more than ever over the past several years. Market availability of these solutions is vast and selecting relevant vendors to capably deliver has never been more important.

Amanda Cummins: "Continued education is essential for agents to keep up to date with technology and changes within our industry. AireSpring is an excellent resource to help with your education and training."

Brett Hubers: "A successful trusted advisor must continually be aware of industry changes while maintaining the knowledge necessary to design and execute go-forward solutions for their customers."

Brian Henson: "I believe in the old saying: 'Respect is earned, not given.' Good news or bad, customers have more respect if you are open, honest, and prepared with an action plan."

What is the "next big thing" you think trusted advisors/agents should be aware of or get involved with in 2021?

Security, Security, Security. In 2020, Work from Home (WFH) and Work from Anywhere (WFA) were fast-tracked on a global scale. Many IT teams have had to look beyond their office LAN infrastructure and expand into users' homes and devices. Understanding the security threats and what solutions are available is essential to ensuring your clients have the right solution in place. In addition to security, we feel 5G is here and will be able to achieve true wireless flexibility at the speed of wired networks, allowing businesses to connect, collect data, and create in new ways.

Amanda Cummins: "Every day you hear or read about 'bad actors' attacking a company and they continue to get bolder and more creative with each attack."

Shari Hennekes: "The new capabilities that 5G brings will redefine business mobility with a range of new IoT possibilities."

What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of telecom?

As a company MTCI has strong ties to our community. For the past 12 years we've been engaged with Adopt-A-Class, an organization that connects businesses and civic groups with students in Cincinnati's economically challenged schools. MTCI has been fortunate to work with the same school and teacher during our years of involvement. Through this program we mentor students and expose them to experiences and training on what their future career paths can be. Through our pen-pal program, school visits and special activities, we build relationships with each child. In addition to our company sponsored project, our team individually volunteers and sponsors various activities to strengthen our communities.

Since 2016, Amanda has been an active participant in the Great Cycle Challenge (GCC), which has people around the country set a personal cycling goal, pedaling to help fight kids' cancer. Since 2015, GCC riders have ridden a total of 18,831,310 miles and have raised over $24,615,507 in support of the Children's Cancer Research Fund.

For Brian life doesn't get any better than when he is playing outside with his two sons and spending time with his wife, as well as playing sand volleyball and tournaments with his friends. Brian and his family are also involved with Autism Speaks, Ronald McDonald House, and The Blind and Visually Impaired.

During the summer, Rob volunteers for his parish by working their festival duck races and judging the chili festival. He also plays in a few recreation leagues with his friends-softball, volleyball, and bowling (his best game this year was 279). He also manages to get out and do a little golfing now and then, so a round of 18 holes is a perfect afternoon.

For Shari spending free time with her family is really important. She and her husband foster adoptive children and teenagers. They enjoy camping, fishing, and hiking as a family. Giving back to the community is another large component of her life, from serving the homeless in downtown Cincinnati to outreach ministries like Adopt a Block.

Shawn really enjoys spending time with his wife of 24 years, their two sons, and their pets. He likes sport shooting and has competed in several regional competitions. Home renovation projects and working in the yard keep him busy, and he dabbles in several 'much quieter' hobbies that include model railroading, R/C cars and slot car racing. ("I'm a giant kid with grown up responsibilities." )

Tell us about your professional background and how long you've been in the telecom industry.

I've been in telecom for almost 25 years. I started in 1997 with ICG Communications in Colorado (now part of Lumen). I was a Channel Manager, then their Director of the Agent Channel for six years. After that, I went to TelePacific (TPx) in 2003 as a Senior Channel Manager. In my eighteen years there, I made the President's Club twelve times, and am very proud to have been added to the TPx Sales Hall of Fame.

Tell us about your role at AireSpring.

I am a Regional Channel Manager, primarily for the northwestern states, and I live in Northern California (north of the Bay Area, even). I support Partners and their customer needs in California, Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Alaska. My goal is to give everyone who depends on AireSpring products and services all the information and support they need to get the best solutions and outcome.

What do you enjoy most about working at AireSpring?

A number of things, but mostly the culture and the people here who are so willing to help. It was that culture, of a family owned and operated business, that figured heavily in my decision to make this career move. The broad product line, AireSpring's 100% channel focus, devotion to service and product excellence and its channel partners and customers make a big difference to me as well.

What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of the office?

I'm a family-focused guy. My wife Maria and I have three children, and our three grandchildren are my passion. I'm also very much a Northern California native: I love my San Francisco Giants and 49ers, and food and wine. We spend time in the Sierra foothills, gold country, as the one photo shows. ('Twain Harte' is a small town that renamed itself after writers Mark Twain and Bret Harte!)

I also love to travel, and have been able to visit 26 countries (so far!): China (Bejiing & Shanghai), Hong Kong, Bali, Fiji, Australia, Moorea, Tahiti, Brazil, Argentina, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Amsterdam, Belgium, Ireland, Dominican Republic, St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Nevis, Costa Rica and of course Mexico and Canada. Some of my photos from these travels are below. I'm not sure when my new role will let us get away again, but I look forward to adding more countries to the list!
